Tavares, FL:  The Cancer Registry for Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute has earned the Jean Byers Memorial Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration from the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS), the statewide population-based cancer surveillance system.

The Jean Byers Award honors Florida cancer registries that exhibit outstanding leadership and dedication to the field of cancer registration by meeting 100% accuracy on data submission to the State cancer registry data base.

“We are honored to receive the Jean Byers Award,” says Dave DeProspero, Director of the Cancer Institute.  “It recognizes our ongoing commitment to a healthy community by accurately tracking the health of our cancer patients.  Our two registrars, Jennette Cox and Jennifer Sanky, are singularly responsible for this achievement and deserve to be recognized.” 

This prestigious award is given in honor of Jean Anne Byers, who passed away in 1996 following a long career dedicated to promoting oncology research and education in Florida.
