Jackie Barrett, RN, BSN, CBCN, Breast Care Coordinator at Florida Hospital Waterman, passed the certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN) Examination administered in November, 2010.
Ms. Barrett is a graduate of Southern College with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She has worked in the field of oncology for 28 years, and came to Florida Hospital Waterman in her current role in June, 2010. She is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, and the National Coalition of Oncology Nurse Navigators.
The CBCN Examination tests the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice competently within the specialty of breast care nursing, from prevention and detection, to diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end of life care. Breast care certification is available to nurses who have a current, active, and unrestricted RN license; a minimum of 12 months of experience as an RN within the three years prior to application; a minimum of 1,000 hours of breast care practice within the two and one half years prior to application; and completed a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education in the specialty of breast care.
The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, an affiliate corporation of the Oncology Nursing Society, develops, administers and evaluates programs for certification in oncology nursing. Information about the CBCN Examination is available at www.oncc.org.
