Florida Hospital Waterman Introduces The Triathlon Custom Fit Knee:

In traditional knee replacement surgery, surgeons must rely on their own experience and judgement to correctly size and place the knee implant in the patient.  Orthopaedic surgeon Samir Guru, D.O. is now offering Stryker’s Triathlon Custom Fit Knee with ShapeMatch Technology, which uses special instrumentation to prepare custom fit knee implants using each patient’s specific size, positioning and alignment requirements.

The new technology uses proprietary three dimensional imaging software to create a customized surgical plan for each patient.  Following an MRI exam, which records detailed images of the patient’s knee, the software creates a 3D model of the knee.  Precise ShapeMatch Cutting Guides are then manufactured based on the patient’s unique anatomy, allowing Dr. Guru to make smaller incisions and to size and position the implant more accurately than in traditional knee replacement surgery.

“I am excited to be the first orthopaedic surgeon in our area to offer this new technology,” says Dr. Guru.  “There is no difference in cost from traditional surgery, and the precision fit of the implant that results when using this technique gives us the best possible outcome.”

Any patient considering knee replacement surgery may be a candidate for this new procedure.  For more information about knee replacement surgery options at Florida Hospital Waterman, please call 352.253.3388.
