Tavares, FL: The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation, its highest level of accreditation, to Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute (FHWCI). This was achieved following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which FHWCI demonstrated a Commendation level of compliance with the Commission on Cancer’s program standards, including cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement.
The Accreditation Program sets quality-of-care standards for cancer programs and reviews the programs to ensure they conform to those standards. Accreditation is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. To maintain accreditation, facilities must undergo an on-site review every three years.
“We are extremely proud to have received such a high level of accreditation,” says David Deprospero, Cancer Institute Director. “It means that our patients can be ensured the care they receive at FHWCI is comprehensive, with a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment, access to clinical trials, and a multispecialty, team approach to coordinate the best treatment options. Most importantly, it means that our patients receive quality care close to home.”
