Florida Hospital Waterman Celebrates 100 Open Heart Surgeries

Tavares, FL:  In November of last year, Florida Hospital Waterman (FHW) pledged to provide Excellence in Cardiac Care and Dr. Gary Allen, fellowship trained cardiothoracic surgeon, performed the first open heart surgery.

Dr. Allen is skilled in the unique option of “beating heart” surgery where the heart is not stopped, meaning less time in surgery and faster recovery.  And in our dedicated Cardiac ICU, each patient is assigned a multispecialty cardiac care team to ensure the very best outcome. The most advanced heart care, right here at home. That is our pledge.

Today, the commitment to excellence has paid off. We are proud to announce the completion of 100 open heart operations, which include open heart surgery, coronary bypass, and heart valve replacement and repair. “The fact that we reached this milestone far sooner than expected is a testament to the unmet need in our community that we’re now fulfilling,” says Richard Pearce, Heart Center Director.  I would like to recognize each of the departments in the FHW Heart Center, as well as all of the cardiologists on our medical staff, for their commitment to making every patient experience always the best.”
