The Latest Tool in Breast Cancer Detection
Women have a new high-tech tool in the fight against breast cancer at Florida Hospital Waterman and the Center for Medical Imaging.  Breast MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) raises breast cancer detection to the next level by taking highly detailed images for more accurate diagnosis.  This non-invasive procedure is a breakthrough for women with dense breasts or implants, or women at high risk for breast cancer, and can be used to track chemotherapy response in patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Breast MRI results are analyzed by computer-assisted detection (CAD) technology that can identify breast masses that may not be seen on mammography or ultrasound.  “Early detection of breast cancer offers women the best chance for successful treatment,” says radiologist Idelisa Torres-Berastain, M.D.   “Together, breast MRI and CAD provide more accurate results and contribute greatly to cancer management.”
